Africa: Cross border trade coordination enhancing industrilization

 Namibia’s Information and Communication Technology Minister Tjekero Tweya and South Africa’s Communications Minister Faith Muthambi this week formulated a coordination arrangement regarding the countries’ respective digital terrestrial television migration projects. Print Send to Friend The cooperation and coordination arrangement would see a joint task team established to mitigate the potential cross border interference between the two countries and enhance collaboration and cooperation of the regulators in radio communications, content and other related matters as the crossover from analogue to digital broadcasting continued. MORE INSIGHT Minimal impact from missed broadcasting migration deadline – Muthambi Digital migration to start in Q2 The team, which would report on their progress on a quarterly basis, would guide the sharing of strategies surrounding the release and use of the digital dividend for “other” undisclosed services; the sharing of technical implementation best practices around set-top box sourcing and distribution, besides others; the cooperation of content development and information dissemination to facilitate social cohesion and integration; and the establishment of a mutual recognition agreement for standards and conformance for equipment type approval. The arrangement would also result in the development of a comprehensive checklist highlighting areas requiring attention and cooperation.
